Ryerson’s Orphan Sponsorship Program at Ryerson University is a unique initiative founded by the Ryerson Muslim Students’ Association designed to unify, raise awareness and leave a positive impact for a humanitarian cause. We are currently collaborating with four Student Societies, over 20 student groups and course unions, and many local businesses in the Ryerson community.
Our campaign is called 30 for 30 (30 Days for 30 Orphans), and it stems from the legacy left behind by the previous year’s Orphan Sponsorship Program campaign, which successfully raised over $70,000 campus-wide. We wish to continue the beautiful journey that they started and build upon what has already been achieved. The campaign began on January 18th, 2016 and will be 30 days in length.
Our charity partner is SOS children’s Villages, through them we hope sponsor multiple orphans globally. We chose to partner with SOS children’s Villages Canada for the following reasons:
- Reputation & transparency: we wanted to ensure the organization that we partnered had a storied history and annual reports that were provided on a yearly basis.
- Religiously neutral: as a Ryerson-wide initiative, it was important to us that the charity we were working with was not affiliated with any religion or walk of life.
- Programming & countries choices: SOS does a lot of work towards strengthening families and programs, and also gives many countries as options to work with, something that helps our widely diverse initiative.
